Since hiking is one of my favorite activities, when my birthday rolled around last year, I asked my brother Jeff and my friends Joe and Dave if they'd come hiking with me to Mt. Monadnock. Unfortuntately, the road to Mt. Monadnock was closed due to an accident and we were fighting daylight since we had left home very late. We went to McDonald's, pondering what to do, and then I remembered that there's another small mountain called Pack Monadnock a few miles back down the road. "Pack" is the Italian word meaning "little." The hike was about 45 minutes and the summit offered great views of Mt. Monadnock.

A small lookout tower and various antannae grace the summit of South Pack. There are also shelters and picnic areas, and of course, a lovely parking lot. This is the price you pay for climbing a mountain that only reaches 2310 feet above sea level.
