Located near Mt. Whiteface, Mt. Passaconaway (4060 ft.) stands on the southern edge of the White Mountain National Forest. If you are thinking of climbing Mt. Passaconaway, I have one word for you. Don't. Especially if you've got camping equipment on your back. The trails are relatively steep and seem to go on forever, but the worst part is that there really aren't any good views. Thankfully having a couple adventurous and funny friends along can make even the worst hiking trip turn out great.

Here we go... off to a fun weekend of camping
Here we go... off to a fun weekend of camping

When we set out that day, we had no idea where we were going. We wanted to go to Mt. Washington, but we got stuck in traffic and knew climbing Mt. Washington with such a late start would be impossible. So we got out our AMC White Mountain Guide and arbitrarily picked a mountain that was awful. You can see below, this small lookout we found, which was nowhere near the summit, was our best view of the weekend until we saw the golden arches on the way home.

Our campsite was pretty cool and hanging out with the guys acutally made this trip a fun one despite the crappy location. At night, Dave almost knifed me when he thought I was the Blair Witch... but other than that, things went relatively smoothly. The ironic thing is that we were hiking all day long and saw hardly a soul until we reached the area of our campsite. There was a youth group up there and a bunch of other people. All the best sleeping spots were taken. D'oh!
