clicky click on a linky linky

In the past my links page has sent you to the home pages of companies and organizations that I like, even if I didn't really spend much time on their Web site. Now I'm gonna try something different... actually giving you some Web sites that are useful. But first, the sites of my friends.

Deborah Bernat
Deb is one of the most unique individuals I've ever met (so it make sense that we have a lot in common). She's extremely caring and she stands by what she believes. She's always up for doing fun stuff and she's also a Web wizard! She lives in Southern California now. Also check out her resume site, The Web of Deb.

Ethan Hayes
Wise beyond his years, Ethan started at Gateway right out of college and is still working for them. His Web site features a pop quiz and photo albums featuring your basic college shenanigans and tomfoolery.

Jaime Philp
Jaime worked with me at Gateway. She's an experienced journalist who's interviewed the likes of Bill Clinton. She's a pretty great Web developer too. Check out her site which has video of her and her husband skiing out west!

Jesse Claggett
When I think trenchcoats and banner ads, I think Jesse Claggett. He's one of the best banner ad designers on the planet. He even designed some of those screens that you watch at the movie theater before the previews start. His site features a stellated icosahedron.

Jim Bostick
Jim is one of the most experienced designers I've ever worked with. He's dabbled in all different kinds of design as well as brand management, his own artwork, and photography. And he's a great guy... we co-managed the Design & Production team at Gateway together.

Jim Vaughey
Jim is creative and witty. Whenever we needed something cheer us up during the dark days of Gateway, Jim would create some silly graphic making fun of the stupid company. It was great! His Web site features grapefruit.

Kathleen McCorry
Kathleen McCorry IS the Boston Sports Gal. She loves live sports as well as fantasy sports. Her site features commentary as well as a wealth of links for the Boston sports fan. Oh yeah, she's also a pretty good Web designer too!

Luke Erickson
Luke and I worked together for about 4 years. He is a writer with a master's of journalism from the University of Oregon. Check out his site for pictures of his sons Jack and Sam, movie reviews, and a great story about how he searched for his birth mother.

Pete McElroy
Pete and I worked side-by-side for a short while and did outdoorsy stuff together. Check out his Web site which has AWESOME photographs of Colorado and Utah.

useful sites

Metacrawler
Do you have trouble choosing a search site when you need to find something on the Net? The answer is simple... don't choose one. Metacrawler allows you to enter search terms and it will query a bunch of search engines for you.

Boston.com
It's the Boston Globe in convenient online form. The front page has up-to-the-minute breaking stories.

Broadband Reports
Tons of information about broadband Internet providers. I especially like the speed test which allows you to see how fast your Internet connection really is.

DotPhoto
All of my additional Photo Albums are hosted on DotPhoto. This incredible service is absolutely free. You can upload as many photos as you want and share them with friends and family. You can also purchase prints of your digital photos at really low prices.

Fandango
Welcome to Fandango. This site allows you to buy movie tickets online and you can view showtimes for movies at virtually any theater.

Weather Underground
This is a no-nonsense site that quickly gets you the weather forecast and current conditions for any location.

online shopping

I wanted to create a section devoted to online shopping because I've come pretty close to mastering the art.

Yahoo! Shopping
This is a great starting point because Yahoo! Shopping contains thousands of stores in one. Enter the name of the product you're looking for and you'll get a list of all the best prices. There are familiar big-name stores like Staples, Target, Barnes & Noble, Eddie Bauer, etc. There are also thousands of no-name stores that offer some fantastic deals. The great thing about Yahoo! Shopping is that you receive 2 reward points for every dollar spent. After you've accumulated points, turn them in for a gift certificate to your favorite store. If you want an extra reward point for every dollar you spend anywhere, use the Yahoo! Visa card.

Computer Shopper and Shopper.com
These sites work in basically the same way and are must-visits if you're shopping for computer-type equipment. Enter the name of the product you're looking for and you'll get a list of all the best prices. Also, be sure to visit the Reviews section to compare products. There are also areas which tell you how to shop for a particular item. This is a great way to learn about technology.

Savings Tree, Happy Coupons, and Techbargains.com
Online coupons can save you $10, $20, $30, or even $40 on a purchase and are free for the taking. These three sites are the best for quickly getting to the free coupons.

fun sites

Atari 2600 Museum
OK, I have to admit that the Atari 2600 is the only video game system I was any good at. But boy, was I good. Basically all children who grew up in the 80's had one. This site takes you on a trip down memory lane, reviewing the history of the system and featuring several of the games.

Homestar Runner
This is probably THE funniest site on the Internet. It's a series of Flash-based cartoons centered around an odd cast of characters. The animators, writers, and voices (all the same people, basically) are all extremely talented. You gotta check out Strong Bad Email. "So many emails... so little GOOD email."

Satellite News
The official Web site of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Info Club. Includes the broadcast schedule for one of the funniest television programs ever made.

Web Museum, Paris
This is a comprehensive site of art work. Learn about famous artists as you tour the halls of the Web Museum viewing the works of Cezanne, Monet, daVinci and dozens of others. Like a real art museum, works are arranged into categories such as Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Revolution & Restoration, Impressionism, and 20th Century.
