| For the remainder of the trip, we stayed each night at the awesome Hyatt Regency, Jerusalem. Day six was one of our busiest days. The itinerary included Wailing Wall, Western Wall Heritage, Via Dolorosa, Temple Institute, Mount of Olives, Muslim Quarter, Jewish Quarter, Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, and the "Garden Tomb." |
Old City
The "Old City" of Jerusalem is the part within the walls. Today Jerusalem sprawls over many square miles... the old city is a very small part of it, but it's the most fascinating!
We visited the Wailing Wall where we said silent prayers for Jerusalem. There were many orthodox Jews there praying away with their heads bobbing fervently. Individual prayer requests as well as full baggies of them were filling the cracks in the wall.

We then got to witness a tour of the entire Western Wall -- underground! Completely fascinating! As we looked at a model of the Temple, Amir talked about the importance of each of its parts and of the sacredness of the Holy of Holies, and thus the extreme importance of the priest. He made an observation that really made me realize what we have -- direct access to God! We don't need to go to the temple, or go to the priests. We can, in all of our imperfections, go straight to the throne. It's amazing.
