Beit Shean
Beit Shean is an elaborate, magnificent excavation of a city during the Roman/Byzantine era. However, the site itself has revealed 18 superimposed cities revealing 6,000 years of civilization! The amount of recovered remains is simply mind-boggling -- huge pillars, entire streets, and entire buildings are being restored and reconstructed when necessary. This city will eventually look the way it did back nearly 2,000 years ago.
Beit Shean is the same place where King Saul's dead body was pinned to the wall by the Philistines as a trophy. An impressive theater is the highlight of the city. We learned firsthand that the acoustics are magnificent!
