Day 4: Sunday February 21, 1999 <- previous page show me more of day 4! ->

On our fourth day, we said goodbye to the Ein Gev kibbutz where we had stayed for three nights. We went first to Beit Shean and then out of Israel into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Most of our day was spent in a bus travelling through the Jordanian desert.
Ein Gev
A kibbutz is a type of socialist commune where the land is worked by everyone and the benefits are shared. Once an important part of Jewish society, the kibbutizm are now decreasing in importance. "Equality" among the members is seen less and less today.

The people of the Ein Gev Kibbutz run a Holiday Village which is where tourists like ourselves stay. Although it was the simplest of our accomodations on this trip, the kibbutz was comfortable and homey.

The big plus, however, was that it was right on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. What a blessing it was to walk on its shores in the early morning, just like Jesus would have done!
