| On our third day, we had to make up some ground that we lost to the rain the day before. We visited Gadera, Capernaum, Tel Dan, Banias, Nimrod's Fortress and the Golan Heights. |
Capernaum
Capernaum was the home town of Jesus after he left Nazareth. Amir put it well -- imagine that when you're 30 years old, you have to tell the people around you that you are the messiah. These are the people you've befriended and worked with your entire life. Needless to say, he was rejected by his own people, the Nazarenes, and was forced to live in Capernaum.

He probably stayed with Peter, at his mother-in-law's house. Possibly after Peter started becoming well-known, the early Christians began treating his house with special respect and reinforced its walls. This leads archaeologists to believe they've found the exact room where Jesus and/or Peter stayed. The Catholics have built an unsightly church above the room, but when you look past that, it's certainly a remarkable find.
